How to start and grow a cleaning business when you’re over 60.

Step 1 To Starting A House Cleaning Business When You’re Over 60

Most people our age that read this are computer literate, so I am writing based on that assumption.

If you’re not good at computers, it’s time to learn. Try a course at Udemy.com, or get a young person to assist you (not recommended).

Onward.

1.  Set a date to begin marketing to potential customers. Usually a month or less is enough.

2.  Register a business name with your state so that you can get a business account and set up tax payments.

3.  Go online and do a Google search for: (Your state) start a business. Look through the search results and look for a URL that has .gov in it or at the end of it. DON’T click on anything without the .gov somewhere in the link. Follow your state’s instructions.

In my opinion, for now all you need is a DBA (“Doing Business As”) vs. creating an LLC. You need this in order to open a business checking account at your bank.

FYI: Of course if you want to make doing your taxes needlessly complicated an LLC is the way to go.

Set up a business bank account. It’s possible that your bank will require an actual state business registration. If so, go do that.

It’s also possible your state will require a full business registration. Do what needs to be done.

To recap:

Get a DBA or register your new business with your state.

Open a business checking account in your new business name.

A thought: At the bank try to get an account that will allow you to deposit checks using your smart phone. I use Chase and that is something I take full advantage of.
